If you’ve attended MWC before, you’ll know that this is one of the world’s largest events with over fifty thousand people making the trek to Barcelona’s Le Fira venue every year.
I’ve prepared a practical guide aimed to ensure you maintain your productivity whilst minimising exhaustion!

Leave your designer shoes at home
Ladies, those Prada high heels may make you feel like you’re ready to negotiate a hard deal but walking around 8 halls, each one on average the size of a football pitch, is likely to be painful and counter productive! Make sure you bring sensible footwear that’s comfortable to roam around the venue in. |
|
 |
Less expense and more time for your meetings
There’s certainly no shortage of cafés, bars and sandwich shops within the venue. However, expect lengthy queues and premium-priced food that is different to what you buy at home. I recommend you are generously fed prior to arriving at the venue, and bring your own water. High protein and low fat snacks such as nuts are always a good to bring along too. |

Dancing girls are only interested in one thing….
Some exhibitors choose to decorate their stands with pretty dancers, often attracting a cluster of amateur photographers. Scantily clad females on a Wednesday morning can occupy the mind more than intended so try to keep focused on the reason you really came to MWC! |
|
 |
Get organised with those queues
There is very little that can prepare you for the enormous queues at the exit to the venue as each exhibition day draws to a close. To manage this problem you could arrange your meetings outside but in the vicinity of the venue or at least give yourself a bit of extra time to get through the queues to your next appointment. If you’re trying to speculatively catch a decision maker on a stand, then early mornings, late afternoons and all day Thursday are the peak times. |

Make room for Barcelona’s finest Serrano Ham
Do you really need to transport all those free USB sticks, stress balls, folders, pens thousands of miles, only to have it sat in the top drawer of your desk until you clear them out ready for next year’s load? Make it MWC worthwhile for your loving partner by leaving room in your Tumi luggage for specialities of the Spain!
Don’t forget, we are giving away a limited number of graffiti wallets, which will prove much more useful and can store your travel pass and hotel card key. Book a meeting and pick one up yourself! |
|
 |
Don't ask, don't get!
Millions are spent every year on stand design, give-aways, brochures and incentives, but it’s astonishing how many people attend MWC to carry out diligent research, yet don’t actually ask any questions. After all, brochures are available from Web sites to download at far less expense than booking a flight and hotel! :-). |

Remember your pocket Spanish dictionary (or app!)
MWC attendees come from all over the world. English is what you need to get yourself comfortably around the venue, but once you’re out on the streets, particular if you are staying in the suburbs, you might struggle to get your Espresso topped up with hot water, or your eggs sunny side up, without a few words of Spanish. |
|
 |
“When the sun don’t shine”
The weather is very variable in Barcelona during February and March. You could be basking in the Spanish sunshine during your cigarette break one minute and be drenched in torrential rain the next. Then there’s the heat from the glaring spotlights on the stands. I recommended that you carry light waterproofs in your bag and wear light layers to adapt to the changing temperatures. |

Thursday is bliss. Comparatively.
Thursday is notoriously a quiet day. 3 Days of rushing through crowds and over indulgence takes its toll on any human body. That’s why Thursday is often the most popular day to call it a day and fly home. If you're able to stay, Thursday is a great opportunity to nail down meetings with those exclusive contacts. If you are manning a stand and want to maximise your exposure to new prospects during the busier days, try scheduling those lower priority meetings for Thursday as well. |
